"Rapunzel Variations," an immersive new production from LEVYdance

“Once upon a time” springs to new life in present day in LEVYdance’s newest production Rapunzel Variations. Set within a 21st century context, “happily ever after” looks different through the lenses of beloved storybook characters. This evocative journey of contemporary dance, live music, spoken word, and immersive placemaking is the company’s first production in its SoMa home studio, freshly equipped for full-scale works.
Rapunzel Variations is the creation of LEVYdance Executive Artistic Director Garance Marneur and Guest Choreographer Scotty Hardwig, in collaboration with Company Artists Michaela Burns and Keanu Forrest Brady and Guest Artists Cookie Harrist and Miche Wong.
What to expect in each performance:
"Rapunzel Variations" is an immersive, participatory experience. Rather than stationary viewing, patrons will be asked to move around the space, interact with performers, and stand for as long as 15 minutes. Please wear comfortable footwear.
Strobe lights are used during this production, as well as smoke and fog effects.
We request you bring as few personal belongings as possible. Coat check will be available, though space will be limited.
If necessary, sitting throughout the show is possible. if you need accommodation for seating, wheelchair access, or any other special needs, please email [email protected] at least 48 hours ahead of the performance you attend, and we will happily make arrangements for your safety and comfort.
