This fun workshop will introduce you to the quilt-as-you-go technique (sometimes called “fun and done”). We will be working on either a 5” pin cushion or a 16” pillow cover - you decide depending on how fast you sew and how much you like the technique! Once you have made one item using this technique you will find yourself wanting to make more - perhaps even a whole bed quilt! These also make perfect presents because you can customise every detail.
We will be using materials from SCRAP but you can also incorporate your own fabric, lace or ribbon if you want to bring it along. We will be sewing by hand during the workshop but you can equally use a sewing machine when you get back home to speed up the process.
You will need to have basic sewing skills (i.e. you can thread a needle, sew a straight line of stitches and finish sewing without it unraveling - knots are fine!) but everything else will be taught on the day. Children under 14 need to be accompanied.
Your Teacher:Alex Byrne is originally from England and has been sewing for more than 30 years. While she loves all textile arts she is currently obsessed with quilting and is the current President of the SF Quilters Guild. She is a firm believer in having fun while you craft and always encourages her students to enjoy themselves while they are learning. You’ll find her on Instagram as @lixiemakesit.
Special thanks to Alex for her generous offer to donate the proceeds of this workshop to SCRAP!
