Project Space Exhibitions

SEE EVENT DETAILS
Sep 12-Nov 15, Sun-Thurs, 12-5PM

Project Space presents site-specific exhibitions that are guided by information and experiences gathered while work is in progress at Headlands. Home to select Artists in Residence each season, as well as occasional group exhibitions by visiting artists and curators, Project Space is a place of exchange among working artists and visitors-a place where ideas are germinated, conversations are shared, and new work is made.

Fiamma Montezemolo
Fiamma Montezemolo's Project Space exhibition comprises four distinct projects, each exploring modes of existence between self and others. All are developed originally for what the artist calls a "collaborative solo," in partnership or with contributions from others. The first project centers on a scale model of architect Jeremy Bentham's Panopticon, fabricated with Jose Parral. In the second installation, Montezemolo presents a story inspired by the myth of Ariadne, created by writer Rebecca Solnit and Montezemolo's son, Sami Elhaik, told through animation and live action video. The third project, a video work featuring several anthropologists, looks at the relation between art and anthropology. The final work includes a site-specific installation made from materials culled from the US-Mexico border, created in collaboration with Tijuana artist Alejandro Zacarias.

Yaloo
Working in Project Space west, Artist in Residence Yaloo will produce and install a series of virtual sculptures, or 3-D video installations, created at Headlands. The artist will make a new sculpture each day she is in residence. Based in Chicago and Seoul, Yaloo uses video projection mapping and virtual reality to create technically rich, visually extravagant works that mine the poetic possibilities of digital media. At Headlands, she is continuing her longtime investigation of transcultural symbols while she experiments with new possibilities for video installation.
