Professor Shyguy

at Cafe Stritch (see times)
Entering the realm of chiptune means entering the realm of the nerd. But other musicians sing about everything from love to murder, so why not video games? Chiptune transforms the fuzzy bleep-bloop synth sounds from the Super Nintendos of yore to complex and orchestrated music. Professor Shyguy's got a strong voice, and in "The RPG Song" he uses it dramatically-with tongue firmly planted in cheek-to narrate the standard plot arc of pretty much every role-playing video game ever. Also, he's got a whole song about MineCraft. The video game references may not resonate with every listener, but the music definitely holds up to scrutiny. (Stephen Layton)
