Polythene Pam // Forgetmenauts // soft vowel sounds

SEE EVENT DETAILS
Hey East Bay! We're back with the folk-punkiest sound around! Join us with The Forgetmenauts and Soft Vowel Sounds at the world famous White Horse Bar in Oakland.

It'll be an early evening filled with awesome music, laughs, and the very finest in queer shenanigans!

Come join the fun! Can't wait to see you all!

--

Polythene Pam are an upbeat, whimsical, quirky queer folk punk girl band. Think TMBG, Violent Femmes, Dolly Parton, Johnny Cash, Magnetic Fields, and a dash of Beatles in a big ol' eclectic, catchy, musical stew. Laugh, dance, and sing along -- fun times for all!

Years from now, history books will remember The Forgetmenauts as pioneers in the culturally iconic futurepunk-folk-sex-dirtcore genre. Hailing from Berkeley, CA, and with strong roots in the East Bay circus, beermaking, and activist communities, their sound has been described using words like "complex" and "slay." Come for the clever band name, stay for the songs about werewolves, vampires, fox brides and devil daughters. And the distortion. Ugh you're gonna love the distortion.

Walker Staples: Guitar, banjo, vocals, definitely not the frontman
Kit Gripp: Mandolin, vocals, harmonic & aesthetic backbone
Emma Williams: Bass, groinmelting grooves
Collin Sullivan: Drums, surprise tempo changes
Abe Finkelstein: Cello, kind eyes

*soft vowel sounds* is the latest indie-pop solo music project from former Bitesize guitarist/lyricist/primary song writer Julia Serano.

With *soft vowel sounds*, julia offers a rather novel mix of deliciously percussive & dissonant guitar noises, catchy-as-hell melodies, smart yet silly lyrics, unconventional yet oddly endearing vocals, and occasional keyboard & bird squawks. While decidedly contemporary, the quirkiness and charming minimalism of *soft vowel sounds* evokes the spirit of early lo-fi recordings from artists such as Guided By Voices, Liz Phair, Pavement, Beat Happening, Sebadoh, and They Might Be Giants
