Places Seen and Imagined

SEE EVENT DETAILS
Desta Gallery is pleased to announce the upcoming exhibition of new work by Jeffrey Long, Places Seen and Imagined, on view from January 15, to February 28th. There will be an opening reception on Saturday, January 25, 2020.

In this latest group of work Long conveys his impressions of place, seen, remembered, and imagined. These are improvisational pictures, which riff on the geometries, hard edges and colors of shacks, sheds and huts. He tries to disclose the visual poetry latent in structures and in landscapes that have been manipulated and fractured by man, and see the landscape for what it has become in the era of overpopulation and economic inequity.

Jeffrey Long's work has been exhibited extensively with notable galleries throughout the United States and acquired by private, institutional, and corporate collections as well as museums such as the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, The Oakland Museum, Crocker Museum, and Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art.

Jeffrey Long was born in New York City in 1948. He received his B.F.A. from the Rhode Island School of Design (1970) and M.F.A. from the California College of Arts & Crafts (1976).
