Picnic en Blanc de Peninsula will bring together at a secret outdoor location hundreds of friends, family and strangers attired in white for a picnic dinner, beautiful music and dancing. For a few hours on Sunday evening, August 30, the secret location in Redwood City will be transform into a sea of white as guests arrive, with the setting of the occasion revealed two days before the magic moment.
“I think the secrecy of the location is part of the allure of the event. It makes the surprise more charming if it’s revealed only a few days before,” says Steve Cortez, board member of the Redwood City Parks and Arts Foundation.
Picnic en Blanc Sur la Péninsule is inspired by the Diner en Blanc concept that began in Paris in 1988 when a dinner party with friends was planned in a public place and all the guests were asked to dress in white attire so they could identify one another.
The elegant affair will transform into a dance party with Spags Electric Violinist & DJ, as well as the 10-piece funk horn band, Sinister Dexter.
For many guests, the event really begins hours earlier as they choose and dress in entirely white outfits from head to toe, with a splash of color, and pack their picnic dinner. Picnic en Blanc provides the venue, tables, chairs and live music for a single ticket price of $50. A portion of that amount is tax-deductible. For guests who don’t want to bother with packing a picnic basket, Picnic en Blanc also offers both a chicken and vegan catered meal option provided by, our sponsor, Whole Foods Market.
Beverages and hand crafted desserts will be available for purchase along with “for the moment” themed classic hats which will be, of course, in white with an accent of color.
Proceeds from the event will benefit after-school programs in Redwood City schools.
