Stern Grove Festival Association is a non-profit cultural organization committed to providing the people of the Bay Area with admission-free access to diverse performing arts. Every year since 1938, the organization presents Stern Grove Festival, an admission-free performing arts series, in Sigmund Stern Grove, a beautiful outdoor amphitheater located at 19th Avenue and Sloat Boulevard in San Francisco. In 2017 Stern Grove Festival presents its 80th Season and on June 25th they will kick off their Opening Day with The Big Picnic and Live Music! This event is free and open to the public. At 11:30am, the party begins! Our event host will arrive extra early to secure space for us on the lawn, so feel free to arrive a little before the official start time to get situated. At 2pm, local R&B and funk musician, Quinn DeVeaux, will kick off the concert followed by Grammy Award Winning band, Kool & The Gang best known for their hits, "Celebration," "Jungle Boogie" and "Cherish". This event is BYOB. Alcohol is allowed on the premise, but not sold. We also ask that you bring a potluck dish to share, enough to feed 10-15 people. Please leave a note in the comments letting us know what you are bringing so that everyone can see and we do not have duplicates of an item. Coolers and picnic baskets are allowed. Some notes: 1. Once the park has reach capacity, no one else will be let in. You will be given a hand-stamp for re-entry. Please keep this in mind as you plan. 2. Parking is EXTREMELY limited during these concerts, so public transit is highly encouraged. 3. Bike Valet is FREE. 4. You may bring a lawn chair, but it must sit low to the ground. 5. No pets, grills, skateboards, recording equipment, large umbrellas...for a full list as well as directions, please see the website.
