In this talk, entitled "Role Playing," pianist Adam Tendler explores presence, personality, and the varied roles pianists must inhabit from performance to performance. He plays and discusses works by Rzewski (De Profundis), Cage (4'33"), Bartok (Etudes, Mikrokosmos), Elodie Lauten (Imaginary Husband) and others.
A recipient of the 2019 Lincoln Center Emerging Artist Award, Tendler is a recognized figure in new music and leading interpreter of American composers. He has recently released the premiere recording of Edward T. Cone's 21 Little Preludes, and an album of piano works by Robert Palmer will appear on New World Records in 2019. An active presence in all contemporary music genres, Tendler has performed the complete major piano works of Aaron Copland, and collaborates with the John Cage Trust and Edition Peters in presenting Cage's work internationally.
