Pharoah Sanders possess one of the most distinctive tenor saxophone tones in jazz, and is renowned today as a pioneer in avant and free-jazz. After getting his start his start playing with Sun Ra, Pharoah rose to fame in John Coltrane's group and was given his stage name by Amiri Baraka. Pharoah's collaborations with Coltrane were influential to countless artists, and his classic 1960's and 70's albums have cultivated legions of followers worldwide. His current quartet consists of William Henderson on piano, Nat Reeves on bass, and Joe Farnsworth on drums.
