PETER ANTON, the sculptor internationally known for his oversized, mixed media sculptures of mouthwatering candies debuts at Scott Richards Contemporary Art during the month of July. In the spirit of indulgence, Anton’s hyper-realistic sculptures of boxed chocolates, ice cream bars and deserts present us with an unapologetic look at ourselves. Richly colored, rounded shapes, and sugar-coated surfaces make for luminously pure still life subjects. But the theme of sweets also serves as an ideal metaphor for human experience. It evokes simple nostalgia and shared memories, while tapping into the deeper realm of human desire.
