Perfectly Queer book reading "Children's Books by Queer Authors"

SEE EVENT DETAILS
Children's books aren't just for kids. Adults can learn from and enjoy them, too! This month, Perfectly Queer San Francisco welcomes four Queer creators of children's books on Monday, October 9, 7pm at Dog Eared Books Castro, 489 Castro St. Donald Trump, gender fluidity, Pride, and boys in dresses. Free admission, delicious refreshments, and thematic door prizes!

About the readers:
Marcus Ewert is the author of 10,000 Dresses and Mummy Cat, the co-editor (with Mitchell Watkins) of the anthology Ruh Roh, and contributor to a number of anthologies and other publications including the Lambda Literary Award-winning nonfiction anthology I Do/I Don’t and such literary journals as Shampoo, Suspect Thought, Star*line, and For Immediate Release. He is also the co-creator of the animated series "Piki & Poko: Adventures in StarLand." Marcus lives in San Francisco.

Maya Gonzalez is an artist, progressive educator, and award-winning children's book illustrator and author. Her work focuses on art and story as powerful tools of reclamation and transformation, both personally and culturally. Her primary activism tool is creating and publishing radical children's books that tell the truth of who we are and what we can be. She invites grown-ups and kids alike to do the same through her online school and free kids’ programs, which teach a holistic approach to creating and publishing children's books. https://www.mayagonzalez.com

By day, Dr. Gayle E. Pitman teaches psychology and women/gender studies at Sacramento City College. By night, she writes children’s books and engages in other forms of subversive creativity. Her debut picture book, This Day in June, won the 2015 ALA Stonewall Award, was a Rainbow List Top Ten pick, and received the IRA’s 2014 Notable Books for a Global Society Award. Her books, teaching, and general commentary have been featured in publications ranging from School Library Journal to The Advocate. Her most recent books include When You Look Out the Window: How Phyllis Lyon and Del Martin Built a Community.

Beth Reichmuth is a writer and preschool teacher who also spends her time lazily hiking and crafting notes to send to her friends via snail mail. She lives with her soon-to-be-wife Sarah in San Francisco. She is passionate about LGBTQ families and gender-expansive children being supported and celebrated as an integral part of their schools and communities. I’m Jay, Let’s Play is her first children’s book.
