'People As An Adjective' by Qianqian Ye: Opening Reception

SEE EVENT DETAILS
Four Barrel Coffee is pleased to present ‘People As An Adjective’, a new body of work from Qianqian Ye. Born in China, Qianqian Ye is an artist and designer currently living and working in San Francisco. Her artwork is a metaphor for human interaction, revealing the vulnerable and awkward aspects of social life. She deals with moments that are mundane: an internal monologue, an uncomfortable silence, a night of petting a cat.
Influenced by her study of traditional Chinese calligraphy from a young age, her recent practice depicts unspoken social dynamics with ink and water. The unpredictability of ink and water, along with the inescapable influence of time, parallels the nuance of social interaction. She visualizes personal and universal vulnerabilities in her ink paintings with minimal figurative shapes. The narrative titles she chooses for each painting build an emotional structure, creating a conversation with the viewers that invites them to personalize the stories.
Emerging from an architecture background, Qianqian Ye explores the complexities of human interaction in various media including installation, performance, and ink. Her works have been shown at Museum of Contemporary Canadian Art, Ecobuild London, Killscreen Magazine and various exhibitions in US and China. Currently, Ye is collaborating with Shanghai Auto Museum to illustrate human emotion in a dystopian science fiction.
Join us on Friday, August 10th from 6-8pm for the opening reception for this exhibition. Drinks will be served and the artist will be in attendance.
Four Barrel is a cafe and roastery that has been supporting artists with exhibitions since 2008. This exhibition is free and open to the public.
