Pagoda Red Carpet Grand Opening

After three years of funneling the "global soul" scene into downtown San Jose, the Pagoda nightclub at the Fairmont Hotel is re-creating itself. Parting ways with Universal Grammar promoter Tommy Aguilar and bringing on board Mauricio Mejia of Detox Sundays, Pagoda aims to restyle itself as a Vegas-style lounge-with DJs from Sin City to boot. For the grand opening, the nightclub is bringing in DJ Zhaldee of the Hard Rock Hotel's Body English party. In the weeks that follow, Pagoda will host resident Wynn DJ Mike Carbonell and Encore Hotel's DJ Fabian. Of course, this Vegas-ification doesn't necessarily mean a flattening out of the local scene (but who knows?). DJ Goldenchyld of the Bangerz is scheduled to spin come December. (Stephen Layton)
