Owl Paws is a folk-rock quartet from San Francisco. Their sound combines acoustic elements of folk music(acoustic guitar and upright bass) with dreamy electric guitar, driving drums, memorable vocals and progressive songwriting.

Shady Maples is old soul rock, Americana, Latin and folk with Bay Area roots and branches. Their debut 2012 album is a boiling concoction of acoustic, lapsteel and electric guitars, organs, mandolin, and harmony. Singer songwriter and guitarist Owen Roberts wraps "visceral lyrics" (SF Chronicle) around hard driving and kick back melodies for a sound that swells and recedes.
Shady Maples debut 2012 album is soulful and explosive, gritty and melodic. They wrote, arranged, road tested, produced and released it independently, demonstrating influences from rock to Americana, reggae and Latin. Shady Maples’ self-produced debut album, Unfold, is a combustible combination of alternative rock, Americana and Latin that showcases the dynamic songwriting of Berkeley’s Owen Roberts and the explosive swamp psychedelic arrangements of San Diego’s beer brewing lap steel wizard Greg Peters.
After two years touring the west coast and a successful crowd funding effort, Roberts and co-producer Greg Peters holed up at Fantasy Studios in Berkeley with drummer Trent Boeschen, bassist Dennis Haneda, Brooklyn Bill Bell and his pump and Hammond organs, and Bay Area songstress Kelly McFarling. KQED describes the album as "perfectly Californian" in its lyrical treatment of nature and social consciousness, and NBC San Diego calls the sound "explosive" and "dynamic."

The solo effort began as a self-defined “compartmentalizing of hurt” by San Francisco based multi-instrumentalist Olivia Lee (vocals, keyboards, programming, guitar) as she wrote in between other collaborated efforts.
She began recording in the the converted garage studio of friend Nic De La Riva and finished recording and mixing with engineer Ian Pellicci (Yann Tiersen, Rogue Wave, Hauschka) at Tiny Telephone.
In Autumn of 2012, Kellen Balla (programming, guitar, vocals) and Young Lee (guitar, vocals) were added with hopes of recreating and expanding the ambitious visions of the record for live performance. The songs took shape and began to transform into a both delicate and hauntingly dynamic soundscape that now sets the tone for the full band, There’s Talk.
The upcoming debut EP, Tiny Stands, rich with eclectic subtleties and dark harmonies reminiscent of folk influence Sufjan Stevens and textural confessions of Youth Lagoon, is set to release in late Summer of 2013.

Based in North County (San Diego), most members of psychedelic alt-country rockers Dead Feather Moon grew up around Vista, including Justen Berge and Jesse Kling. It’d be a stretch, but you could say the band started in an Escondido high school.
“That’s where I met two of the guys who are in the band,” says Berge, who later moved to neighboring Vista. “We played together, and we played in different bands, and we went our separate ways for a couple of years. Then, we put it back together.”
Berge and Jessie Kling started DFM by “listening to records together and then playing guitar. [Kling] had this notebook full of ideas for song titles, and Dead Feather Moon was one of them. I said, ‘That’s good enough for a band name.’”
Berge says that’s how he sometimes writes songs, by crafting a title first. “I read as much as possible. I’ll read a phrase and I’ll jot it down. I just have pages and pages of things like that, words and sentences that mean something to me or that make me feel something. I do my best to get them into songs as quickly as possible.”
The first show they played as Dead Feather Moon was in 2009 at 710 Beach Club in Pacific Beach. According to Berge, “We got our foot in the door of the Belly Up right about the time that we got our fifth member. That’s become our home base.”
They released their first EP Leave Heaven to the Birds in July 2009.
A debut full-length Dark Sun, tracked in February 2011 at White Horse Recorders with producer Aaron Swanton, was released in July 2011. A little over a year later, it won Best Alternative Album at the 2012 San Diego Music Awards, where the group also got a nomination for Best Alternative band.
The group also includes Tyler Soule, Chris Bowling, and Greg Peters.
The message of Dead Feather Moon? “That we’re a very hard-working band, and an honest band,” says Berge. Honest? “We do our best to write the most original music. Some bands emulate other bands maybe more than they should.”
