Exhibition: Jan 20 - Mar 10, Reception: Feb 5, 6-8pm
One objective in this series was to draw on the disappearance of print as a basis for large collage works. Towards that end I chose inexpensive four-color newsprint, high grade print material, and a variety of low-fi posters and other signage, in combination with oils, acrylics, and pencil. As the materials are broken down and reconfigured, the text and imagery becomes disassociated, reducing to pure form, texture and color. As the materials become less and less identifiable, the subtext of the work seems to broaden. The result creates a conflict between depth and surface, between continuity and dismemberment.
