Orquesta La Moderna Tradición

SEE EVENT DETAILS
From the first note, you'll want to jump out of your seat! Orquesta La Moderna Tradición bursts with the sweet yet powerful sound of the Afro-Cuban charanga orchestra, which features violins and woodwinds interlocking with driving afro-Cuban rhythms.

Since 1996, this group has thrilled audiences across the country with a mix of contemporary timba-infused arrangements guaranteed to get you on your feet and traditional danzónes that transport you back to the Havana social clubs of the 1950s.

La Moderna Tradición has performed at Lincoln Center in New York, the Smithsonian Institution, The San Francisco Jazz Festival, the Telluride Jazz Festival, and many others -- their tours have taken them from Alaska to El Paso and abroad.

~~~~~~~~
As the only ensemble on the West Coast devoted to danzón, the insuperably elegant and foundational 19th century Afro-Cuban style, Orquesta La Moderna Tradición is a charanga orchestra with strings, woodwinds and percussion that delivers driving and gracefully interlocking Afro-Cuban rhythms. Stocked with some of the finest musicians on the scene, La Moderna Tradición is directed by violinist Tregar Otton and percussion maestro Michael Spiro. While rooted in the dance music that coalesced in the final years of Spain's dominion over Cuba, the band is also fluent in the sweeping boleros, surging salsa, and fierce timba grooves of recent decades.
