Are you ready to swing in or out with jazz music? Dancing in your seat and tapping your feet to the ground in beat to the music is what we hope to inspire. From Basie to Monk, and from Ellington to Coltrane, all of Jazz’s history will be heard at Origins of Jazz III – “Swing In or Out”
.
The annual concert will focus mainly on the rhythm section (piano, bass, and drums), which will take the spotlight. "The rhythm section is the foundation of jazz music, combining melodic, harmonic and rhythmic variation into song. From the powerful drive of the drum and bell in traditional African music, the stomp and hum of the field holler, to the precise timing & sounds of the marching drum line, the meaning and role of the rhythm section can be experienced. The rhythm section is a sturdy yet flexible canvas, synchronized and seamlessly woven together. The rhythm section contains endless colors, hues, textures and moods that can be expressed, within and over, at any time”. – Geechi Taylor
The concert is on March 23, 2017 and will take place at the San Francisco Conservatory (50 Oak Street) at 7:30 PM, featuring YMCO’s Big Band conducted by Geechi Taylor and grammy award bassist Robert Hurst.
