A rare appearance by the famed Orchestra Nostalgico, plus Imperial Jazz Co.! A night of Italian movie music, Bond themes, thirties jazz and more.
Orchestra Nostalgico, born of the legendary Club Foot Orchestra, focuses its attention on the music of the great composers for the movies: Ennio Morricone, Bernard Hermann, Charlie Chaplin and more. Their repertoire, which glides effortlessly from moving to hilarious, includes a medley of James Bond themes, music from Hitchcock thrillers, and Nino Rota’s circus-tinged scores for the films of Federico Fellini. The Orchestra is comprised of some of the major players in the Bay Area improvised music and jazz scenes – Sheldon Brown, Phillip Greenlief, Joshua Raoul Brody, John Finkbeiner, Myles Boisen, John Hanes, guests John Ettinger and Andrew Stephens, and transplants to the Pacific Northwest Tom Yoder and Steve Kirk.
Imperial Jazz Co. is a new-on-the-scene band that shares many members with Orchestra Nostalgico and features the captivating and delightful vocals of Jill Rogers, known for her work with honky-tonk revisionists Crying Time. The band plays instrumental and vocal numbers with an emphasis on tunes from the nineteen-thirties, with forays into the works of Monk and Mingus.
