L.A. rapper Open Mike Eagle once did a talent show-style bit, bringing three rapper friends on stage to each spit a verse on the topic "my favorite sandwich." He's opened for musicians, as well as stand-up comics, like Hannibal Buress and Paul F. Tompkins. But Open Mike's legit in the rap scene-he's part of the respected Project Blowed crew. His latest album, Dark Comedy, has some great punchlines, but it's neurotic, blunt and uncomfortably real at times. And it contains some pretty creative beats. They Might Be Giants' "Don’t Let’s Start" is a particularly interesting sample. (Aaron Carnes)
