The Grease Diner and Laurie Shapiro Gallery is proud to celebrate our one year anniversary and a very special exhibition that features the newest work of Oakland-based artist, Laurie Shapiro. The art party will take place Friday August 15th with a reception from 6-10pm. The Grease Diner will become an immersive installation of Laurie’s large-scale textile paintings, which are built up with hand-sewn fabrics, screen prints, and boldly colored paint. There is almost always a main figurative subject, surrounded by a world of smaller details. With her smallest piece being around 5ft x 5ft and the largest being over 27ft long, these paintings will create a world of color, detail and intricate beauty. The Grease Diner is excited to unveil the newest works of Laurie Shapiro. Refreshments will be provided as well as a live performance by Jon Jon.
Laurie has shown her work and has private collections in the US, Europe and the Middle East. Originally from New York, and with a BFA (2012) from Carnegie Mellon University, she is now the co-owner of the Grease Diner along with her husband, Jon Jon Cassagnol. The two opened the Grease Diner in June 2013 as a gallery for Laurie’s large-scale textile paintings. Since then, the Grease Diner has expanded into a local gift shop that sells unique, hand-made items. Many of their products are made at the Grease Diner. The Grease Diner is also a DIY screen printing studio, open to the public 6 days a week. Find out more at
