Ballet is an art of inches. Dancers need precision in their movement to achieve the most graceful lines, and even momentary lapses can mean serious injury for them and their partners. Modern Ballet is different from the pink tutu version we instinctively call to mind. The beautiful, languid flow of motion remains, but the freedom with which these dancers move speaks more to the deeper realms of emotion than to a strict adherence to tradition. Guided by renowned choreographers like Robert Dekkers and Kara Davis, the San Jose Dance Company will explore movement on the edge between tradition and innovation, order and creativity, and life and art.
