Originating from Zimbabwe, Oliver Mtukudzi & The Black Spirits have been performing since 1979, becoming one of Sub-Saharan Africa’s most legendary bands. Though the members of The Black Spirits have changed throughout the years, Mtukudzi (affectionately referred to as “Tukuâ€) has remained constant as the group’s front man and a public figure in promoting peaceful virtues. With his voice and guitar, Mtukudzi’s organic blend of traditional and pan-African influences, combined with cosmopolitan pop forms, has led the music to become known simply as “Tuku Music.â€
