Four Barrel Coffee is pleased to present "Odyssey: The Pursuit of Light" by Marine Strage. Primarily a painter, Marine Strage works on canvas with a range of media including watercolor, acrylic, and oil paint. She navigates between pouring, dripping, and veiling techniques as well as more controlled brushstrokes in her exploration of the relationship between what we see around us and what we experience internally. Marine draws inspiration from the many landscapes that she has encountered, from the windswept coast of Brittany, where she spent her childhood, to the radiant vistas of her current home of California. Her artwork is often presented as original paintings, but also as photographic prints: she uses the camera to isolate small close-up areas of her paintings that she can re-present as new abstracted landscapes, subject to new compositions both square, rectangular, and circular. Marine’s realist and abstract images mirror the inner life and create a dialogue with the outside life. They offer a meditation on color, light, and movement that awaken our sense of communion with nature.
Born in 1968 in Quimper, Brittany, France, Marine Strage lives and works in Marin County near San Francisco. Her education began with the earning of a Baccalaureate in Sciences with Honors, after which she moved to Paris to study Communication Sciences at the Sorbonne. This led to a successful ten year career in advertising, during which time a continuous interest in fine art led her to eventually embark upon a different path and focus fully on her painting. In 2012 Marine Strage travelled around the world for 6 months before settling in the Bay Area with her husband and daughters. That was the starting point of a new focus on the beauty of the California landscapes for her art, which provide her with ample material for regular work and exhibitions around the San Francisco Bay Area.
Join us on Thursday, March 28th from 6-8pm for the opening reception for "Odyssey: The Pursuit of Light." Drinks will be served and the artist will be in attendance. The exhibition runs through May 14, 2019.
