The Oakland East Bay Symphony (OEBS) and Music Director Michael Morgan have announced a special tribute concert to Dave Brubeck (1920-2012), the legendary composer/pianist and East Bay native who had an international and decades-long impact on the music world. "A Celebration of the Music of Dave Brubeck" will be a one-night-only concert featuring the full orchestra and guests Chris Brubeck, trombone and bass; pianist Taylor Eigsti; saxophonist Dayna Stephens; and special guest mezzo-soprano Frederica von Stade, preceded by a 7 p.m. talk by Chris Brubeck, the late composer’s son. The program will feature the Grammy-nominated Ansel Adams: America, by Chris & Dave Brubeck, featuring 102 iconic images by the American photographer—the first time the Ansel Adams Trust has given permission for these images to be used in a concert setting; Blue Rondo a La Turk, by Dave Brubeck; Take Five by Brubeck’s renowned saxophone player, Paul Desmond; and other famous Brubeck standards. Proceeds will benefit the Oakland East Bay Symphony education and music programs, and the concert is sponsored by Bell Investment Advisors.
