OAK NYE: Boots Riley & The Coup, Kahil El'Zabar Quartet - co-presented by Amoeba San Francisco

SEE EVENT DETAILS
According to the Chinese Horoscope calendar, 2017 is the Female Fire Chicken year. Red is connected to Fire. Therefore, 2017 is also called the year of the Red Fire Chicken… The rooster being the sign of dawn and awakening. Chinese Zodiac 2017 energies are subject to the fire element in its yin form. Yin Fire expresses inner warmth and insight.

Amoeba Music: "Oakland’s most exciting New Year’s Eve party!"
East Bay Express: "Compared to fancy hotel and club parties happening in San Francisco, OAKNYE's tasteful events are uber-affordable and will likely have a more enjoyable, intimate vibe."

BOOTS RILEY & THE COUP (Ballroom)
Montreal Gazette: "[Boots Riley] is a consummately charismatic front man, establishing his as one of the best live rap acts going, after Philadelphia untouchables the Roots."

Austin American-Statesman: "The Coup isn't a rock 'n' roll band. It's a hip-hop band. But they are a miracle of everyday life and proved it at Emo's on Saturday night. I have no idea when the Coup turned into one of the best bands on the planet, but here we are."

NEW ETHNIC HERITAGE ENSEMBLE (Ballroom)
The history and depth between these master players represents the highest level of performance stemming from the 20th into the 21st century. The new EHE is music endowed with an authentic pedigree that urges to push the boundaries of creative music into the soulful heart of fresh expression! After 43 plus years of eventful music making, the Ethnic Heritage Ensemble is still reinventing itself while forging innovative pathways upon the African American musical pantheon.
