Presented by SFJAZZ, Carnegie Hall's National Youth Orchestra Jazz--led by acclaimed trumpeter and composer Kris Johnson--brings together the nation's top young musicians, ages 16-19, for a dynamic program celebrating jazz as a global art form. Making its Bay Area debut, the ensemble is joined by GRAMMY-winning vocalist and NEA Jazz Master Dee Dee Bridgewater.
Selected through a highly competitive audition process, NYO Jazz has performed at Carnegie Hall and toured internationally with artists including Dianne Reeves, Kurt Elling, and Jazzmeia Horn.
This performance features a wide-ranging repertoire of classic and contemporary works, including music by NYO Jazz/SFJAZZ High School All-Star alum Skylar Tang and a new Carnegie Hall commission by Jihye Lee.
Legendary jazz vocalist Dee Dee Bridgewater--renowned for her work with Thad Jones/Mel Lewis, Horace Silver, and beyond--brings her boundless artistry and commitment to education to this inspiring collaboration.
