This New Years Eve, MOM DJs (Motown On Mondays – SF, LA, NYC, HNL, OAK) curate an evening filled with live performances by Will Magid’s Experiment feat. Aima The Dreamer (J Boogie’s Dubtronic Science, Afrolicious). A unique blend of live jazz trumpet, funk drums, and R&B vocals/rap will be accompanied by DJs Gordo, Timo and The Captain Hat of MOM DJs for a classy all night dance party in SF's favorite subterranean speakeasy, Local Edition. Come ring in the new year with your friends and family ... a tasteful evening inspired by the Golden Era of soul with a twist from the future!
Will Magid - Trumpeter/Producer/DJ Will Magid's unique style of live performance and electronic sampling seamlessly blends original music with sounds from across the globe.
He’s had the honor to tour and collaborate with many talented artists from diverse genres of music, such as Solomon Burke, Erykah Badu, Pretty Lights, Bonobo, Baba' Ken Okulolo, Ocote Soul Sounds, Afrolicious, CocoRosie, Jeremy Sole, J-Boogie, and the Mutaytor.
Aima The Dreamer is a freestyle rapper, poet, singer and versatile MC, she brings her array of talents and influences to the masses by way of her mixtape which includes J-Boogie, Lyrics Born, Bassnectar, Crown City Rockers, DJ Vadim, Bunny Mack, Sola Rosa, Brass Mafia et al.
She has graced the stage with such greats as Talib Kweli, Lady Bug Mecca, Beats Antique, Yo Yo, The Herbalizer, DJ Vadim & Yarah Bravo, Gift of Gab, Lyrics Born, MC Lyte, Chali 2na, Abstract Rude, Haiku de Tat, Mark Farina, Bassnectar, Zion I, Les Nubians, DJ Qbert, Zap Mama, Digable Planets, Crown City Rockers, Medusa, Climbing Poetree, to name a few.
MOM DJs & Events is a family of DJs, producers, musicians and music enthusiasts that all share a passion for the convergence of soul music and dancing. We perform at and produce weekly, monthly and special events across North America. From SF to NYC, LA to Austin, Honolulu and beyond. MOM DJs represent the most spirited soul parties with a unique vibration. We gather our musical inspiration from Motown, soul, funk and disco with an emphasis on new and classic remixes/edits. Many of these remixes are originals from the family of 60+ DJs and producers worldwide. MOM DJs have been hired to play massive festivals such as Outside Lands (Feat. Stevie Wonder, Metallica, Neil Young, Jack White … ), Treasure Island Music Fest. (Feat. Girl Talk, Public Enemy, The Presets, SBTRKT, The XX … ), Fractalize 2012 (Feat. E 40 and 50+ EDM artists) regular appearances at music halls and dance clubs e.g. Club Mighty SF, 1015 Folsom, Public Works, Regency Ballroom and The Fillmore to name a few.
Local Edition: Beneath Market St., in the depths of the historical Hearst building lies the subterranean cocktail bar known as Local Edition. Adorned with relics from it's storied, mid-century past (printing presses, typewriters, news clippings, Hearst mansion auction items) this beautiful space was chosen as the ideal stage for a Motown inspired New Years dance party by MOM DJs & Events.
You can expect an expansive, warm speak-easy environment to revel and reminisce in with your friends and family. The finest cocktails by Local Edition (The proprietors of Bourbon & Branch, Rickhouse, Tradition, Cask) and plenty of marble tables.
After you've loosened up with the MOM DJs, Will Magid and his Experiment will take the stage and heat things into a dance frenzy, featuring vocals by the Bay's own Aima The Dreamer. MOM DJs will then sail the late evening ship into 2014 with our unique blend of classic soul, disco, and funk + heavy original remixes for your dancing feet.
