Come celebrate as Noertker's Moxie releases its tenth album, druidh fenestrae.
Bassist/composer Bill Noertker formed his psychedelic avant-chamber jazz ensemble Noertker's Moxie in 2001 as a vehicle for his thematic compositions inspired by art, poetry, sculpture, architecture, and film. His music is unconventional, but not inaccessible, and he and his group spin nuanced and satisfying melodies that are often beautiful but never cloying. Noertker's compositions instigate spirited and playful musical conversations amongst his bandmates. He and his cohorts focus their improvisational talents on their unique group sound and eschew the vapid technical gymnastics that mar much of modern jazz.
The tunes on druidh fenestrae are windows bringing light to some of Noertker's thematic impetuses: childhood chants, poetry, math puzzles, word play, syllabic abbreviations, chicanery, critiques of religion, James Joyce, and Greek mythology. By turns robust, brittle, quirky, deadpan, hypnotic, outspoken, and seductive; a wide range of expression is explored by Noertker and his merry band.
