Neck of the Woods Presents: PERHAPSY, The Baltic, Arms Akimbo

SEE EVENT DETAILS
Perhapsy

Active since his college years as a Jazz Studies major at the University of Michigan, Perhapsy has been the main creative outlet for Barber besides playing in various other bands (Astronauts, etc., In Watermelon Sugar, Chyristian Rawk, Anna Ash, and The Winston Jazz Routine to name a few).

What once began as an instrumental rock outfit (self-titled album released by KC-based The Record Machine, 2010) has translated into an experimental pop singer-songwriter project characterized by trance-like guitar loops, live sonic improvisation, and understated vocals.

The Baltic

The young guys in The Baltic sound as though they've absorbed the expansive spirit and introspective sounds of post-rock bands like Sigur Rós. They don't fill every space with noise, like many young bands tend to do. The songs reveal a Ride influence in the percussion and the way the guitars glitter and soar over a melodic bass line, the vocals ever so slightly in the background. But, here, too, the sophistication of the songwriting and the sensitivity to space are impressive, while the soundscaping is gorgeous and lush.

Arms Akimbo

"Arms Akimbo, an emerging new indie rock band from Los Angeles, have released their second single, "Michigan". Incredibly catchy and reminiscent of the mid-2000 indie era, "Michigan" brings life to the genre. Full of great guitar riffs and raucous drums, Arms Akimbo are easily one of the favorite "to watch" bands right now.” -GRRRL Music
