Built for the Sea comes from the roster of Firebrand Records, a label started by Tom Morello (Rage Against the Machine) with fellow social activists. Lia Rose (Mini Pop, Or the Whale) blends her fiercely honest songwriting & hypnotic vocals with the ambient electronic sounds of Daniel McKenzie (The Rum Diary, Shuteye Unison, Identical Homes). And they’ve recruited long-time friend, collaborator and multi-instrumentalist Jake Krohn (The Action Design, The Sorority) for live shows.
Warsaw covers the gamut of dark moods. From the smooth, smoke-filled room vibe of Shadows (debut music video), to the upbeat and dancy synth-laden Machines, and the uber-gothic organ driven Haven. You even hear hints of some of their heavier influences in the doom pop track, Marrow. Warsaw's name may be a nod to goth godfathers, Joy Division, but their sound is wholly unique -- a dark, sexy and sinister sound that evokes an almost cinematic sense of being.
NRVS LVRS (pronounced “Nervous Lovers”) is the dreamy darkwave project of husband & wife duo Andrew Gomez and Bevin Fernandez. While citing acts like Massive Attack, Can, and Kate Bush as influences, their music flirts with caustic electro-pop elements similar to that of The Knife, Bat for Lashes, or Crystal Castles. The dulcet tones of Fernandez’ soaring vocals complimented by Gomez’ low crooning glide over layers of ominous synths, driving guitar, and precise percussion to create compelling electronic soundscapes.
