About the Artists
Violist Bella Fong is passionate about sharing music with diverse communities around the San Francisco Bay Area, performing in senior homes and schools. Ms. Fong has recently performed in the Junior Bach Festival and American Protege International Strings and Piano Competition Winners’ Recital in Carnegie Hall’s Weil Recital Hall, where she received first place (2018). Furthermore, Ms. Fong has won first prize in the Music Teacher’s Association of California VOCE as a chamber musician and soloist and has received prizes in the US Open Music Competition, Great Composers Competition and Silicon Valley Youth Music Competition. An avid orchestral musician, she has served as co-principal violist of the El Camino Youth Senior Symphony, principal and soloist of SF All-City Music Festival, assistant principal of Camerata in the Golden Gate Philharmonic and Lowell High School Symphonic Orchestra. In previous summers, Ms. Fong has served as assistant principal of the Curtis Summerfest Young Artist Summer Program in 2017, Stanford Youth Orchestra Summer Concert Series in 2015 and has participated in the Boston University Tanglewood Institute in 2016. Ms. Fong has worked closely with Sharon Wei, Toby Appel, Hye Min Choi, Christina Wong, and Wesley Collins and has performed in masterclasses for Roberto Diaz, the Juilliard String Quartet, Michael Zaretsky, and Don Erhlich. Besides music, Ms. Fong is active in her school and community, as vice president of a service club, a violin and viola teacher at Lowell High School, a tutor at Reading Partners, a member of the California Scholarship Federation, and member of Shield and Scroll Honor and Service Society. Ms. Fong currently studies with Jessica Chang at California Music Preparatory Academy where she plays in the award-winning piano quintet Quintetto Tranquillo. Additionally, she is currently the violist of the Nebula Trio at Young Chamber Musicians. In the fall, Ms. Fong will study Viola Performance and Prelaw at Boston University.
