Barefoot is delighted to present Bay Area icons Shira Kammen (vielle, harp, voice) Letitia Berlin (recorder, doucaine, voice), Phoebe Jevtovic Rosquist (voice, bells), and Paul Thompson (voice), performing music from the 14th century Roman de Fauvel.
The Roman de Fauvel is a satirical French poem set to fascinating and immensely varied monophonic and polyphonic music. Banned yet wildly successful in its time, the poem is a critique of the government, using the metaphor of a donkey who becomes the ruler of the house. The music ranges from gorgeous love songs to edgy Ars Nova polyphony.
All in the fabulous wooden acoustic of St. Mark's Parish Hall. There will, of course, be snax.
