We're very excited to host our brand new Techno party at Oakland's premier night club, Riddim! With a Turbosound system, Riddim promise to have some of the best sound in the East Bay! Can't think of a better place to throw our new monthly party!
For our first official Modify party, we welcome one of SF's heavy hitters, Jonboy. From his early high school years at Chicago’s legendary Medusa’s nightclub, to his recent exploration of house, techno, and disco, Jonboy has embraced all elemental sounds of electronic music. His journey to the decks began in the early ’90s, when he spent weekends listening to the likes of Cajmere, Psycho Bitch, Felix da Housecat and Moby perform at Medusa’s. The music inspired Jon to attend raves across the city while dancing to the early techno and industrial music of that era.
While attending college in Boston, Jon started listening to big beat electronica, such as the Chemical Brothers, the Prodigy and Fatboy Slim. In addition, seeing live performances by the "superstar" DJs of the mid to late 90s at Karma and Crobar in Chicago, is what inspired him to purchase his own decks in 1999 and take in electronic music to its fullest extent.
In the summer of 2001, he relocated to San Francisco where he was exposed to the funky overtones of West Coast house. Jonboy eventually warmed up to the chunkier beats and nows plays a hybrid of house, techno, Indie disco and the occasional breakbeat that he continues to shape today.
We're also very excited to welcome local Techno DJs D15CO and Lisa Fox! You may have heard them on their new radio show, Sanctuary Broadcast (http://www.mixcloud.com/sanctuarybroadcast/) playing the finest in Dark and Minimal Techno.
