Mobile Light Art Station

SEE EVENT DETAILS
at Exterior of Esther's Orbit Room (see times)
Immersive Arts Alliance presents the Mobile Light Art Station, a free, outdoor display of works of light art by six Bay Area artists including Zeina Barakeh, Elaine Buckholtz, Can Buyukberber, Heesoo Kwon, Davey Whitcraft, and Ian Winters.

The selected works by the six artists depict a meeting point of the human enterprise and the natural world with arresting and sometimes unexpected consequences. Davey Whitcraft's Altogether Now explores a new mode of working with landscape and proposes a world that operates with different physics and impossible geometries. Can Buyukberber, a pioneer of digital art, contributes METAXY, a recent work which functions as a time capsule sent to a distant future.

On Saturday, April 22, 2023, 8pm to midnight, the Mobile Light Art Station touches down at the site of the former Esther's Orbit Room in Oakland, a club that hosted such legends as Tina Turner, Lou Rawls, Etta James, B.B. King, and Al Green in its heyday. Esther's is at 1724 7th Street, adjacent to the West Oakland BART Station. IAA is partnering with the East Bay Permanent Real Estate Cooperative (EB PREC) for the illumination of the nightclub's exterior and an open-air dance party. The party, with additional partner support from The Crucible, celebrates EB PREC's acquisition of Esther's Orbit Room and adjacent properties, currently being renovated as a gathering place and center of activism for the community.

The program is free and does not require reservations.

Immersive Arts Alliance presents ambitious works of public art in the Bay Area, most recently the first Oakland Festival of Immersive Arts in July 2022.
