Mildred Howard: "Parenthetically Thinking"

SEE EVENT DETAILS
Mildred Howard: Parenthetically Thinking: It’s More than Glass
Howard will draw upon five decades of art-world experience in discussing the realities—and the hype—of “making it” as an artist. A review of her recent work will consider strategies of representation in printmaking and collage. Howard will also present examples of her numerous public artworks and large-scale installations.
Oakland-based artist, activist, and educator Mildred Howard is best known for large-scale installations invoking both collective history and personal narrative. She is a highly visible figure in the landscape of public art in the Bay Area, with works permanently installed at the San Francisco Airport, Hunters Point, the Western Addition, and the Sacramento Airport. Howard has taught at nearly every major Bay Area university and art institution; she continues to work and exhibit internationally.
