Midsummer Mozart Festival Orchestra

Dedicated to fresh interpretations of Mozart's most enduring masterworks, the Midsummer Mozart Festival concludes with an orchestral program that features the return of guest artist, coloratura soprano Christina Major singing Exsultate Jubilate, K. 165 and a selection of arias from operas including Tutte nel cor vi sento and Idol mio, se ritroso from Idomeneo and Or sai chi lo from Don Giovanni. Hailed by the San Francisco Chronicle for her "expressive verve and technical command," Christina returns for her eighth appearance at the Midsummer Mozart Festival in a 2019-2020 season that has included appearances with the Flint Symphony in Mahler's Symphony No. 2 "Resurrection," Greenville Symphony in Beethoven's Symphony No. 9 and a debut role as Lucrezia in Verdi's rarely-performed I Due Foscari with West Bay Opera. Regarding the February 2019 performance of I Due Foscari, Joshua Kosman said in the San Francisco Chronicle, "Again and again she unleashed powerful, perfectly placed high notes and athletic passage work that underscored the vitality of the vocal writing. She brought beauty and pathos to Lucrezia's Act 1 aria "Tu al cui sguardo omnipossente" and railed against her father-in-law with unbridled ferocity that never wavered in pitch or rhythm." The performances will also feature a selection of orchestral works including the Allegro and Variations from Divertimento in B-Flat Major, K. 287 and the Great G minor Symphony No. 40, K. 550.
