"One of the most engaging all-around performers in the jazz game" (Oakland Tribune), veteran pianist Michael Wolff returns with his trio and music from his 2019 Sunnyside album Bounce.

A California native, Wolff honed his early musical development through the renowned jazz program at Berkeley High School and began his professional career with Bay Area Latin jazz icon Cal Tjader's ensemble. Wolff went on to memorable work with Cannonball Adderley, Sonny Rollins, Wayne Shorter, Tom Harrell, and as musical director to Nancy Wilson. He served for five years as bandleader and musical director on The Arsenio Hall Show, and formed a band with legendary Herbie Hancock Head Hunters drummer Mike Clark called Impure Thoughts that would eventually evolve into the aptly named Wolff & Clark Expedition.

A true jazz original whose music surges with breakneck momentum, pianist Michael Wolff has cut an imposing career path since breaking in with Cal Tjader at 19. Raised mostly in Berkeley, he made his recording debut with Cannonball Adderley in 1975, which put him in the thick of the New York action. Over the past three decades he's worked extensively with the Thad Jones-Mel Lewis Orchestra, Sonny Rollins, Wayne Shorter, Tony Williams, Nancy Wilson and his late friend Warren Zevon. On his recent album, jazz, JAZZ, jazz, Wolff returns to a straight ahead acoustic piano trio, a perfect fit for the intimate Florence Gould Theatre.

Michael Wolff Trio . . . returning to his jazz piano roots with the release of 'jazz, JAZZ, jazz', Michael "interprets choice standards by Miles, Dizzy, Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter, et al. with elegance, energy and nuance that establishes him in the first rank of urbane jazz pianists." - http://www.michaelwolff.com
