Described alternately as “intensely urgent” and “poignantly resonant,” the Telegraph Quartet received the prestigious Grand Prize at the 2014 Fischoff Chamber Music Competition and the 2016 Walter W. Naumburg Chamber Music Award. Pianist Michael Tan came to the United States from Shanghai in 1990 and was immediately awarded a full scholarship to the Preparatory Division of the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. He went on to receive a double major from Julliard, winning the top award in several prominent competitions. Michael returned to the Bay Area in 2008, where he has continued his career as accompanist, recitalist, coach, and teacher.
