Menlo Park Sidewalk Arts and Crafts Fall Fest

SEE EVENT DETAILS
Downtown Menlo Park plays host to the Menlo Park Sidewalk Fine Arts and Crafts Fall Fest Saturday, September 30 from 10 am to 6 pm and Sunday, October 1 from 10 am to 5 pm. This 21st annual art-filled family friendly event gives visitors the opportunity to browse and shop among many one-of-a-kind creations lovingly crafted by a variety of talented artists and displayed in the charming atmosphere of downtown Menlo Park.

Taking place along Santa Cruz Avenue off El Camino Real, the Sidewalk Fine Arts and Crafts Fall Fest is free to the public and features an exciting array of original works by more than 50 artists and craft makers including paintings, jewelry, photography, unique wood items, clothing, accessories, toys and more. All of the artists will be on hand to visit with patrons while some will be demonstrating their craft during the show. Among the works to be displayed at this year’s event:

Furniture
Reclaimed materials require extra time and skill to be brought back to life in the form of furniture, but Nathan Penn thinks the extra effort is well worth it. Besides the benefits of saving waste and reducing the demand for new material, there is an added beauty and character in the aged and weathered wood that is worth preserving. All of the materials Nathan uses to create unique pieces of furniture are sourced locally, cleaned, metal hardware removed, and then each surface re-milled to precision. “Working within the limitations of the sourced materials available creates unique demands that help shape the design of my furniture,” he says. “I strive for simplicity and minimalism and utilize joints and eschew shortcuts like screws.” Nathan opts for design based around function with every element serving a purpose.

Painting
Linda Donohue produces original acrylic and mixed media paintings on canvas and paper. She grew up at Muir Beach just north of the Golden Gate Bridge and in the Napa Valley where impressions of Northern California and her continued passion for riding are the inspiration for her paintings. Linda studied fine art and graphic design in San Francisco and became a furniture designer for a family furniture business. Her furniture designs have been featured on HGTV and Extreme Makeover and her showroom has been shopped by Sherwin Williams to determine current color forecasts. Now a full time artist, Linda’s paintings have been purchased by HGTV Secrets of a Stylist's show, the editors of Better Home and Gardens Magazine and are sold through galleries, designer showrooms, furniture stores and The Atlanta and High Point Furniture Markets.

“Take-Alongs”—bags and totes
Located in San Francisco, Lisa Candee hand-designs, creates and sews one-of- a-kind original “take-alongs.” These bags and totes are handmade from new-life and repurposed locally sourced fabrics. They are functional, durable and comfortable and have plenty of pockets so everything has a place to keep you organized for errands or throughout your busy day. Lisa’s original take-along collection includes one-of-a-kind market bags, carryalls, totes and more.

Jewelry
Vis a Vis jewelry was created by Vie Blakey, French jewelry designer living in Los Angeles. Each of her pieces is created with the outmost care and love. She gets her inspiration from mythologies, ancient civilizations and Mother Nature. To create her handcrafted artisan jewelry, Vie uses bronze to fabricate the pendants and charms, accompanied by 14k gold-filled chain and ear wire. She uses the techniques of PMC and classic metal-smithing. Vie makes her molds from her own sculptures, ancient coins, cameos or unusual objects. “I also carve my own stamps and do not do casting so each metal piece is individually made. I love themes from the old world, so a lot of my creations look like they are right out of an archeological site,” she says.
