McEvoy Arts presents Lawrence Weiner: OUT OF SIGHT

SEE EVENT DETAILS
October 16, 2021 - January 22, 2022

'Lawrence Weiner: OUT OF SIGHT' is an interactive installation that encourages community connection through the visual and performing arts. The hopscotch-like mural, on view in the Minnesota Street Project Atrium from October 16, 2021 - January 22, 2022, is presented by McEvoy Foundation for the Arts in conjunction with its nearby exhibit 'Next to You' (through December 4, 2021). Admission to both Minnesota Street Project and McEvoy Arts is free.

Known for text-based works that recall visual poetry, literary aphorisms, or Zen koans, American conceptual artist Lawrence Weiner frequently transforms gallery walls into artistic messaging boards. In his ground-based mural 'OUT OF SIGHT,' he creates a pathway to be viewed and navigated, both physically and intellectually. 'OUT OF SIGHT' combines wit and whimsy in a game-like format, encouraging learning and self-actualization from the viewer through the use of graphical phrases embedded throughout the work. Visitors can stand, walk, or jump from one position to the next, tapping into the dynamic "gamification" of learning and self-discovery.

McEvoy Arts' presentation of 'OUT OF SIGHT' is an off-site extension of the exhibit 'Next To You,' a celebration of the performing arts and the power of art, music, dance, theater, and film to connect us after a year of isolation. Before or after visiting 'OUT OF SIGHT,' stroll down the block to experience the painting, photography, and sculpture in the exhibit that revel in the joy of human connection.

'OUT OF SIGHT' is also on view in San Francisco at the Fort Mason Center for Arts & Culture and the Exploratorium through January 30, 2022.
