Spark your imagination at the 20th annual Marin Open Studios
Marin Open Studios is a vibrant, community wide event that celebrates Marin’s rich culture of art.   This annual, free, self-guided art tour in Marin County marks its 20th year the first two weekends in May 2013. Art patrons, admirers, and collectors can venture out on self-guided tours to see artists and their artworks for engaging dialogue and glimpse into the life of the working artist.
Marin County is known for its natural beauty and for the quality and quantity of the artists it attracts.  Per capita, more artists live in Marin than in any other county in the United States!  Over 250 artists open their doors to show their work spaces and share both works in progress and completed pieces. Artwork is for sale and there is a chance to spark your imagination through exchange of ideas and conversations about creativity and techniques. Attendees will be inspired by painting, sculpture, ceramics, photography, graphics, print-making, glass, jewelry, mixed media and more!

The organizers of Marin Open Studios care about the future of art. This year they are sponsoring several groups of young artists who will show their work during Open Studios. The Youth in Arts Gallery at 917 "C" Street in San Rafael will be open for their group show SYMPHONY “IN-SIGHT” featuring paintings inspired by classical music by students from Mary Silveira, Bahia Vista, Willow Creek Academy and Marindale School.

The young artists’ paintings were inspired by the works of Hector Berlioz, performed this winter at the Marin Symphony’s Family Concert. The exhibit will include hands-on art and music activities for families. Award winners of the Rising Stars High School Art show will have their work displayed at the Marin Society of Artists gallery at the Marin Art and Garden Center in Ross. Art Students at the Marin School of the Arts in Novato will also be showing their work during Open Studios.

Painter Kay Carlson, one of the co-founders of Marin Open Studios 20 years ago, began leading it again after Marin Art Council went out of business last year. This is her second year chairing the event and the 20th year participating, “I had a vision in 1993 that Marin artists could become visible to the community and one another by exhibiting their Artwork. This is the Twentieth Anniversary of that desire to see artists succeed. I am proud to be a part of 250 artists this year who are sharing their unique creative perspective. We have a strong passion for the arts, which is a gift that keeps giving back to the youth and culture of Marin”
Plan your Open Studios Tour with the comprehensive Artist Guide – maps – including a bicycle map, highlights, images of artist’s works all included. Visit the Marin Open Studios website for digital version for the guide as well as a list of locations where guides are available. Best way to plan is to visit the Preview Gallery Exhibition at #325 Town Center in Corte Madera. Each of the participating artists has one of their works on display. The Exhibition at Town Center stays open from April 19 - May 12 daily. The Preview Gala on April 27th from 5-8 is open to the public and kicks off the 20th anniversary event.
