Mardi Gras San Francisco Style
SAN FRANCISCO – Join the celebration of “Fat Tuesday in the Fillmore” with great music, creative costumes, good food and colorful beads. The Village Project will present its 12th annual Mardi Gras San Francisco Style on February 13th. This Fat Tuesday celebration includes a free blues concert from 5 pm to 7 pm, featuring the Silver Fox Blues Band, with a special appearance by Fillmore Slim. A festive New Orleans style processional will be led by the St. Gabriel Brass Band and SambaFunk!.
Mardi Gras San Francisco Style will again bring San Francisco's historic Fillmore Music District to life with rhythm & blues, a colorful family friendly carnival atmosphere, along with face painting, street artists and performers. The free blues concert will be held at Fillmore & O’Farrell streets, followed by a second line New Orleans style processional down the Fillmore Corridor. Guests will be able to enjoy food, drink and other specials at numerous Fillmore restaurants, clubs and businesses. A plethora of eclectic delectable eats will be available to satisfy every palate. We are expecting visitors from the Fillmore District and beyond," states Adrian Williams, Executive Director of The Village Project and producer of the event. "Not only does our annual Mardi Gras celebration include what people look for in the traditional New Orleans celebrations, it continues to embrace the rich history of this neighborhood -- where music has been intertwined into the fabric of everyday life for more than 100 years in one of the most historical neighborhoods in San Francisco”.
Following the outdoor festivities, the Mardi Gras Masquerade Ball will take place at the Westbay Conference Center, 1290 Fillmore at 8 pm. The crown jewel of San Francisco's Fat Tuesday celebration will feature Alabama Mike & Band, while guests enjoy an evening of New Orleans style food prepared by Nia Soul, dancing to Zydeco and soul train tunes and plenty of partying.
