Mallika Sarabhai, Ph.D., is a renowned Indian Classical dancer, choreographer, actress, performance artist, social activist and writer. She is the recipient of one of India’s highest national awards, the Padma Bhushan. She manages the Darpana Academy of Performance Arts founded by her illustrious parents and is widely known for her many stellar compositions and performances, among the first of which was her role as Draupadi in Peter Brooks’ film The Mahabharata. She has contributed significantly to feminist interpretations of Indian mythology and narratives and believes in the power of performance for social change and transformation.
