Maeta: When I Hear Your Name Tour

SEE EVENT DETAILS
Maeta knows what it's like to find yourself drawn into a relationship you probably shouldn't stick with. She bristles at the word "toxic" when describing it but there are few other words to connote the messy back-and-forth she's had with the person who has inspired so much of her music. "Like my music, it feeds me," she says of the rollercoaster romance she had with her ex. "It's all I sing about."

She digs deep into the ups and downs on her new EP S(EX), a raw and sensual exploration of the type of intoxicating lust that feels too good to not be some form of love. Over 11 songs, Maeta envelops you into the whirlwind of emotions her and this guy put each other through, with a star-studded roster of friends and collaborators helping elevate this rising talent to pop star status.

Maeta is introducing the EP with its title track: "S(EX)" presents the theme of this back-and-forth romance and was written by none other than Kehlani. The pair go back to when Maeta was 17 and covered one of Kehlani's songs, which got a supportive comment from the star.

It'll be followed by "ASMR," a song so nasty that the typically unfiltered Maeta is even a little nervous about people's reactions to it. It's a catchy taste of what's inside the dirtier side of Maeta's mind and captures the friction that kept her entangled with her songs' muse.

"It doesn't feel far from anything I would say or do," she adds. "I've just never talked about it on a song before."

Even before getting S(EX) out into the world, Maeta is hard at work on her debut album. She's been doing sessions all over: from LA to New York to London. She even has time in Miami carved out for sessions with Pharrell. She's leaning more pop for her music in the future, with rightfully huge aspirations leading the way.

As she puts it: "I have a feeling it's gonna be an amazing year."
