Love it or Leave it at McEvoy Foundation for the Arts

SEE EVENT DETAILS
at McEvoy Foundation for the Arts (see times)
The McEvoy Foundation for the Arts (MFA) hosts 'Love it or Leave it,' an evening of short, experimental 16mm films. Selected by Canyon Cinema, the program features works by Jack Smith, Julie Murray, Jodie Mack, Lewis Klahr, Scott Stark, Tomonari Nishikawa, and Tom Palazzolo. These films employ familiar images and artifacts of mid-20th-century popular culture, laying bare an enthralling decadence of Western fantasy, consumerism, and excess.

'Love it or Leave it' includes the following 16mm films: Jack Smith, 'Song for Rent,' 1969; Julie Murray, 'FF,' 1986; Jodie Mack, 'Point de Gaze,' 2012; Lewis Klahr, 'Altair,' 1994; Scott Stark, 'Back in the Saddle Again,' 1997; Tomonari Nishikawa, '45 7 Broadway,' 2013; and Tom Palazzolo, 'Love It/Leave It,' 1973.

The film screening is part of 'For the Sake of Summer,' MFA's film and music series that expands upon film and music motifs and cultural themes explored in MFA's summer exhibition, 'Ragnar Kjartansson: Scenes from Western Culture.' The music series presents a sonic compliment to Kjartansson's video installations that are "about a feeling, but there's no story." 'For the Sake of Summer' is co-presented with Canyon Cinema, Noise Pop, and the Roxie Theater. For details visit mcevoyarts.org.

Advance tickets may be reserved on Eventbrite. Reserved tickets are good until 6:45 pm when all unclaimed tickets are released and made available at the door on a first-come first-served basis. Seating is limited. Please arrive early.
