Liz Robb "Mirage"

SEE EVENT DETAILS
The Desert collection weaves together Robb’s experiences in the Mojave, Sonoran and Chihuahuan Deserts that she has explored extensively over the past year.  It relates the desert’s dryness, distinct palette, openness, transparency, & unknowability using techniques of reflection, obscuring, & suspension of movement. Linen, merino and cotton are accented with cochineal, porcelain, & various earth pigments that highlight the texture & dimensionality of a pebbled knot or stitch, transforming a canvassed piece at large. The visceral experience of the work conveys a message of beauty & form that exemplifies her perception of the Mirage.
Robb has shown extensively including a recent solo exhibition at the Houston Museum of Contemporary Craft, Eastern Michigan University Art Gallery, and the International Textile Art Biennial in Belgium. She has done residencies in Oaxaca, Mexico, Iceland, Lacoste, France and Hudson, New York. Her work is in the public collections of Twitter, Marriott Hotel Group and the Savannah College of Art and Design. She has her BFA from the University of Cincinnati and an MFA from SCAD.
