SEE EVENT DETAILS
at Black Cat (see times)
Sean Jones-- internationally recognized Trumpeter, Bandleader, Composer, Educator -- knows how to set a room on fire with his musical prowess and engaging performance style.  It should come as no surprise that throughout his illustrious career he has been prominently featured with many major figures in jazz. Herbie Hancock and Wayne Shorter selected him for their “Kind of Blue Tribute to Miles” tour. After a six-month stint with Jazz at Lincoln Center, he was named by Wynton Marsalis to lead his band on trumpet. Having been featured on jazz legend Nancy Wilson's GRAMMY Award winning album, “Turned to Blue”, Jones' went on to record his eighth release, “Live From Jazz At The Bistro,”  which critics raved about: “captures the live, ‘raw’ feel of jazz and Jones’ special connection to the audience.”
Possessing exceptional versatility, Jones has performed with numerous notable ensembles and musicians, including Tia Fuller, Gerald Wilson, Joe Lovano, Tom Harrell, Jon Faddis, Jimmy Heath and Frank Foster.  For several years Jones was a member of the SF JAZZ Collective and was lead trumpeter with the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra. He is The Artistic Director of the Pittsburgh Jazz Orchestra as well as the Chair in Jazz studies for the prestigious Peabody Conservatory at Johns Hopkins University.
Joining Jones for this exciting residency is Bay Area legend Howard Wiley & Extra Nappy.  Howard and his band have played with some of contemporary music’s hottest voices, including Lauryn Hill, Thundercat, Sheila E, Christian McBride, Alicia Keys, Mars Volta, Nas, Steely Dan and Boyz II Men.
