LIVE JAZZ - ALBUM RELEASE: “THE NINE” CELEBRATING THE NOTORIOUS RBG!

SEE EVENT DETAILS
at Black Cat (see times)

Featuring Sam Barsh (keys/album artist), Christine Gordon (vocals), Mic Holden (vocals) and Tamir (vocals), with the GENR8R groove big band.
This music was commissioned as part of LA’s “NOTORIOUS RBG” exhibit at the Skirball Center. The genre-bending songs use an urban jazz canvas to layer on hip-hop and contemporary R&B rhythms and melodies. “When I started this work, I knew RBG as a staunch defender of civil rights. But as I researched her life, I was struck by her ability to maintain respectful and loving relationships with people who did not share her political beliefs.” Sam Barsh, creator.
Sam Barsh, a multi-platinum, GRAMMY Award-winning songwriter/producer/keyboardist, has written more than 100 commercially released songs and appeared on over 70 recordings to date, including 3 #1 albums on the Billboard 200. He co-wrote the smash Aloe Blacc song The Man, which sold 4 million singles worldwide and reached #1 on the UK Singles Chart and #8 on the Billboard Hot 100. His work as a songwriter and keyboardist (Institutionalized and I) on Kendrick Lamar’s Platinum-certified album “To Pimp A Butterfly” (#1 Billboard 200) has won 3 GRAMMY Awards. Barsh’s work on Anderson .Paak’s groundbreaking album “Malibu,” BJ the Chicago Kid’s “In My Mind” and Ledisi’s “Let Love Rule” have garnered an additional 3 Grammy Nominations.
Described as "phenomenally talented" by Jazz Times and a "Pianist with a gift for groove" by the New York Times, Barsh's professional career launched during his years on the road as a keyboardist for artists such as Avishai Cohen, The Brand New Heavies and Cassandra Wilson, and has evolved to include substantial contributions in a variety of genres.
He has headlined international festivals; has released a number of albums with his solo jazz project and is featured on 65 albums; and has performed with a wide range of artists, including: Stevie Wonder, Estelle, Babyface, Bobby McFerrin, Boyz II Men, Bruno Mars, Cassandra Wilson, Common, David Foster, Debbie Friedman, Emily King, Fred Wesley, Gene Simmons, Gregory Porter, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Kiran Ahluwalia, Large Professor, Lonnie Plaxico, Mark Ballas, Mino Cinelu, Natasha Bedingfield, Quadron, Ravi Coltrane, Rez Abbasi, Robin Eubanks, Roy Hargrove, The Brand New Heavies, and Tom Jones.
