Free, all ages shows for the community. This month, we bring you:
* Anais Azul @ Beast Oakland (3720 MacArthur Blvd)
* Keenan Webster @ RBA Creative (3718 MacArthur Blvd)
* Arnoldo Garcia @ World Ground Coffee (3726 MacArthur Blvd)
A little about the bands:
Peruvian immigrant Anais Azul (they/them) is a composer-performer, Fulbright Scholar, and teaching artist. Described as "stunningly honest and vulnerable," their artistry engages with music as a tool for community building, cross-genre collaboration, and collective healing.
Arnoldo Garcia combines visual arts, music, spoken word and poetry in his work as a culture-maker. Arnoldo is also a musician rooted in Mexican and Latin American traditions and a poet, writer and editor. His work has been featured in the online literary journal, La Bloga, and is a featured poet in different cultural and political gatherings.
Keenan D. Webster started with drums of West Africa and Afro-Cuban roots. Then came Jazz and Blues playing the saxophone and flute and later switched to Native American flute. He has a deep appreciation for world music and has familiarized himself with classical music from India, the Middle East and Southeast Asia. Webster has been on a mission to use music for world peace, healing, to fight against racism and to bring all people together.
The Live in The Laurel (LITL) series promises a great season of outstanding locally-based live music and homegrown fun in The Laurel. Each month, explore some rising stars and local favorites as they perform in intimate venues along MacArthur Boulevard. Your summers won't be the same once you add LITL to your calendar! Visitors are invited to dine at participating restaurant venues during the shows or at one of the many Boulevard restaurants before/after. Stick around to browse boutique shops, catch a yoga class, pamper and glam at a salon, and explore the many public art works and murals.
Samples of their music are available at LaurelOakland.com.
